About the favicon

What is a favicon?

The monogram for St. Mary on the Mothers' Union banner

If you're wondering what a favicon is, it is this tiny picture that appears next to the title of the page in tabs of browsers allowing tabbed browsing (i.e. where you can have more than one page open at a time in the same window).

Most browsers will also include it by the title in the list of bookmarks.

An easily recognisable picture or logo makes it easier to find the page or link you are looking for quickly.

Our favicon

What it is and means

Our favicon is the monogram for St. Mary, to whom the Church is dedicated: a Lombardic 'M' with a crown above it.

Why and where from

It was created from a photo of the monogram on the Church banner on which it appears a number of times. The chunky nature of the M means it is still recognisable when reduced to the tiny size of a facicon.
