Welcome from the Rector

Welcome to the online version of the Festival. Please take your time as you view these pages, and see the stunning splendour of the flower arrangements which enhanced the architectural beauty of our ancient building. The theme was "World Togetherness". Each arranger attempted to portray in flowers one of the many different aspects of "Togetherness" seen and felt in our physical and spiritual life.

The Festival also aimed to achieve "togetherness" in two particular ways in its organization. Firstly, by bringing together members of the local community - churches, schools, societies and businesses - in the task of creating the festival, and by inviting the local community to come and visit it. Secondly the aim was to reach out to the wider world community by raising money * through the event for the charity "Practical Action", which works in many developing countries providing practical solutions to everyday problems.

As you progress through the pages, admiring the arrangements, I am sure you will be moved to 'wonder, love and praise'. We owe a debt of gratitude to those who used their skills and gifts, bringing together the great variety of flowers and foliage and creating them into arrangements that are stunning and spectacular.

Each arrangement reflects the beauty of the Creator, the skill of the artist and is a powerful message of what can be achieved when we work "together in harmony, for the Glory of God in his world".

Thank you to the team who organized the Festival of Flowers, and to all who took part in creating the visual message of "World Togetherness through Flowers".

I encourage you now to take time to look through these pages, to think, to pray, to enjoy and to look beyond the created to the "Creator".

"Be still and know" and enjoy your visit.
