... and beyond
Week beginning Sunday 28th February 2010
Collect for the week
Almighty God,
you show to those who are in error the light of your truth,
that they may return to the way of righteousness:
grant to all those who are admitted into the fellowship of Christ's religion,
that they may reject those things that are contrary to their profession,
and follow all such things as are agreeable to the same;
through our Lord Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

2.30pm in St Mary’s Church Speaker: the Revd Colin Marsh (URC Minister) This year the service has been prepared by Christian women in Cameroon. Today over 3 million people world wide will be praying and worshipping together during this annual day of prayer. Although organised and led by women, this is essentially a day of prayer for everybody as we demonstrate our solidarity with our sisters and brothers in other countries and all are welcome to attend. This same service will begin in Tonga; travel the world in 170 countries and islands until reaching Western Samoa at sunset, which is a fact worth thinking about. The members from the local churches on the committee look forward to seeing you. Refreshments will follow in the church. (Joyce Puzey, Hon. Secretary) CameroonCameroon faces many challenges as its people seek to move forward into a modern age without losing their distinctive characteristics. But at all times, in all circumstances, Cameroonians are able to praise God with joy and exuberance and the service reflects this. The Republic of Cameroon is said to be 'Africa in miniature'. It is a country of great cultural diversity with more than 240 ethnic groups and languages. The constitution promotes equality between men and women but traditional rights and attitudes discriminate against women in many areas of life. However giant steps have been taken towards assuring women's rights and women are involved in the struggle for peace, justice and integrity. All (including men) are very welcome. |

Collect for the week
Almighty God,
whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain,
and entered not into glory before he was crucified:
mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross,
may find it none other than the way of life and peace;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

Holy WeekShow / hide Holy Week introduction For Christians, Holy Week is the most important week of the year as we set out to walk with Jesus following the way of His Suffering and Death, leading us to experience anew the joy of His Resurrection. Lent has given us the opportunity to face afresh the challenges of the Kingdom of God. As we travel to the cross, laying aside our burdens and cares, may we be reconciled to God through our daily prayer and worship together, especially on the Great Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday. In this way we will come to a new experience of God's life enlarging and enriching our lives in love, in joy and in peace. May God who has travelled with us this far give us the grace to finish well. |
