The main activities in support of Christian Aid in Gillingham and the surrounding area are Lent lunches and Christian Aid Week activities.

Lent lunches

in Gillingham

On Friday's in Lent light lunches (bread and soup with fruit and tea or coffee) are held with donations towards the work of Christian Aid both in Gillingham and in the villages.

The 2010 lunches are as below.

In Lent, Count Your Blessings

Christian Aid provide resources to help you keep Lent, in particular in 2010 a downloadble "Count Your Blessings" calendar (PDF, 101KB) with small daily actions which add up to make a big difference.

Most years a special service is held.

collections

Street collections are made, with collectors standing outside the main supermarkets. New collectors welcome - please contact the Hon. Secretary.

Door-to-door collections are not made in Gillingham. A special collection is also made at St. Mary's Church - envelopes are available in advance so that people are prepared; donations can be gift-aided.

Tea Time

a tea time event is held in conjunction with the Christian Aid event in September

Christmas Cards

Several Churches in the area have Traidcraft stalls - you can buy or order Christmas cards from these that are sold jointly supporting 4 charities - Traidcraft, CAFOD and SCIAF as well as Christian Aid.

(you may like to buy or order other Traidcraft goods at the same time - all aimed at reducing poverty)
